James has been a lecturer at UC in the Centre for Applied Psychology since 2000 and has also taught at the University of New Hampshire in the Department of Kinesiology.
James' expertise and interest is broadly in the area of educational psychology and positive psychology. More specifically, James' areas of interest include stress, coping, and [resilience], and how challenge-based intervention programs (such as Outdoor education programs) can foster personal and social development. In other words - he'd probably enjoy being the host of the Survivor TV series! James' PhD focused on the effects of Outward Bound on participants' life skills. James' current research is focusing on the health and well-being effects of green exercise and outdoor activities.
James teaches the third year units Motivation and Emotion and Survey Methods & Design in Psychology and is currently the convener of the 4th year Honours in Psychology course.
James is also interested in exploring new technologies in learning and development, including use of Moodle wikis, and blogs and enjoys mentoring staff and students in this area.
