Current issues

Current

  1. Poor uptime for key systems (e.g., in the first 4 weeks of semester, there were significant out of hours outages for ucspace, webct, and email). The impact of these outages is exaggerated by the lack of service guarantee for out of hours support for key systems. Currently it seems to be done on 'good will' basis which is inadequate and insufficient for guaranteeing efficient, reliable (i.e., > 99% 24/7 uptime) maintanence of key systems.
  2. Approximately 20% of the 3rd year students I am working with are unable to save files to their desktops. Servicedesk claim this been resolved - perhaps for some students - but certainly not for all. (update: servicedesk has re-opened)
  3. MS Exchange
    1. If/when will it be possible to access the microsoft exchange server w/out VPN from off-campus?
    2. When will the full capabilities of the new system for enhancing work productivity be explained to staff?
  4. Internet browser
    1. Firefox
      1. Why is there software on the student desktop which is not on the staff desktop (i.e., Firefox)?
      2. Several major library databases require FF.
    2. IE7
      1. When will it be available? In the absence of FF2 or IE7 staff are being forced to used a browser (IE6) with significantly inferior capability. Why?
  5. Servicedesk survey
    1. Not available off-campus (doesn't reflect client needs and working environments)
    2. Only works properly in IE and servicedesk will not fix - is this now ICTS policy to build systems only for IE?
  6. Open file formats - What is the policy and strategic direction with regard to approved file formats, particularly open file formats?
