Google Scholar

When you are searching Google Scholar it is possible to set up Preferences so that Google searches through UC's holdings and advises if an item is held in this Library.  Instructions for setting your Preferences are:

  • Select Scholar Preferences (from the right hand side of the Search Box)
  • Scroll down to the Library Links Box and enter the word Canberra
  • Tick the University of Canberra -- Full text at UC Library option
  • Save Preferences (bottom of screen)

From then on, in your search results, the following message will appear beside the relevant result - Full-Text @ UC Library

Occasionally Google Scholar cannot find an article that we do hold or the above message appears even though we do not hold the particular article (we do have access to the journal but there is a six or 12 month embargo and the article is in an issue from the embargoed period).

If you want to double check on availability at UC when searching in Google Scholar or any other search engine/database, follow these steps:

  • Check the E-Journals and Newspapers list
  • Check the Library catalogue by journal title or ISSN
  • Search Libraries Australia, by journal title or ISSN to find which libraries hold the journal in print
  • Or request a copy of the article via Document Delivery

All of these links are available from the UC Library Web at http://www.canberra.edu.au/library

Note that you will to use the UC proxy server in order for this work. So, if you are off-campus, you will need to be dialled in via [VPN].
