After due consideration of a review of potential replacement Learning Management Systems conducted at the University over 2006 and 2007, the VCG on the 11th December 2007 gave in principle agreement to replace the current ageing WebCT CE 4.1 Learning Management System (LMS) with an open source LMS called Moodle. Final agreement was subject to development of a full life cycle budget and investigation of possible collaboration with ANU and/or CIT.

The proposal to VCG recommended that Moodle be adopted as the primary and sole supported Learning Management System (LMS) for the University of Canberra. It also recommended that the implementation of the new LMS be guided by good learning design and that a priority be given to developing efficient and effective processes for establishing sites, populating sites, archiving and backup that will ensure the quality of our learning materials and improve our teaching practice with respect to the use of the LMS. Alan Arnold, the appointed Project Leader has completed a report on the full life cycle costing of implementing Moodle, which is waiting to be considered by VCG. As soon as the final budget is approved for implementing the Project, an LMS Renewal Project Advisory Board will be established to formalise the Project Plan and a Project website will be developed to help communicate the work of this group to the UC Community. For further information about the project contact Alan Arnold at: Alan.Arnold@canberra.edu.au or ext 2815.
