Brief description

The Security Coordinator's role encompasses security, educational, and staff responsibilities. As such, the SC needs to be a responsible and dependable individual who has a sincere interest in the welfare of the residence hall community. The Security Coordinator will serve as a resource to staff and students. The responsibilities listed will be carried out under the direct supervision of the Resident Director (RD), with overall security program coordination through the Residential Security Coordinator, RFL's UCPD liaison. Duties & responsibilities of this role

Operating under general direction, the Security Co-ordinator is required to monitor the security services provided by the security contractor to the University and assist the Property Services and Security Manager with the administration of the contract. The position is proactive in liaising with customers, contractors and within the Facilities & Services Unit to identify and address issues and potential hazards. The position will be required to fill the duties of campus security officer on weekdays, and to work occasional evening and night shifts on a schedule planned in conjunction with the Property Services and Security Manager.

Duties

Initially duties required of this position may include:

1. Patrol University buildings and grounds, liaise with and give directions and assistance to staff, students and visitors to the University and to identify and report hazards within the campus.

2. Attend to calls for security assistance and respond as required.

3. Investigate incidents and reports of incidents on campus and take necessary action. Prepare reports for presentation to the Property Services & Security Manager.

4. Provide assistance to police as necessary.

5. Maintain incident reporting/crime statistics and contribute to the process of assessment of security risks

6. Inspect daily the site log books for the Campus and Residences and complete and distribute associated reports.

7. Identify any issues with the services provided by the security contractor and recommend changes to remedy deficiencies. Assist the Property Services & Security Manager with the administration of the security contract.

8. Liaise with contractors and contractors' staff, advising and directing security officers after hours as required.

9. In conjunction with the Property Services and Security Manager, monitor requests for keys and advise where required on keys and associated issues.

10. Provide advice on the operation of the access control system and provide assistance in the management of the access control and alarm systems.

11. Implement procedures for managing lost property within the University.

12. In consultation with the Property Services & Security Manager plan and deliver training and information sessions for staff, students and contractors' staff.

Job requirements

Essential Job Requirements:

1. Possess a Certificate II in Security Guarding.

2. Experience in providing security guarding services in a similar environment

3. Commitment to a high level of customer service and preparedness to provide advice and direction as required to security officers both during office hours and outside of office hours.

4. Level of physical fitness to enable performance of the required duties of the position.

5. Sound computer skills and proficiency in the use of word, spreadsheets and database applications.

6. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and contractors of the University and to prepare reports and correspondence.

7. Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve less complex issues, determine work priorities and meet deadlines.

8. Ability to work in a team environment within a small administrative unit.

9. Possess a current Australian motor vehicle driver's licence.

10. Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to equity principles and OH&S regulations.

11. Four year degree in any business/ technical area or equivalent experience is preferred and three plus years relevant work experience.  (http://www.salary.com/ , 2007)

Desirable Job Requirements:

1. Possess of current Senior First Aid certificate.

Note: This position is required to respond to out-of-hours matters raised by the security guard. As such, in addition to annual salary, the position will attract a disturbance allowance.
