Differences observed

Most information analyst jobs are in a particular field of expertise. eg: HR information analyst, Data analyst etc. The information analyst isn't  a job role on its own; it is often related to a  particular field.
Some of the fields that IT analysts may choose to specialize in are :-

Applications Systems Analysts

  • build IT systems once the requirements have been defined by a business (systems) analyst
  • use data modelling to generate different possible solutions as a means of finding the best result for the client
  • analyse system components and monitor data flow to improve efficiency
  • talk to the business (systems) analyst for clarification of client requirements
  • produce definitions, process flow documentation, rules and instructions as a basis for the work of designers and programmers
  • draw up detailed design documents for the system, using charts and diagrams that indicate the various steps involved and describe the system in ways that the client can understand
  • prepare other detailed documentation, including hardware specifications and tender specifications
  • help with client-site installation activities.

Computer Testers

  • They may have several different roles, including initial testing of a newly built system. This could be undertaken together with experts in the subject area and other IT professionals such as programmers.
  • May also be involved with clients at the application testing stage.

Data Modeller

  • Undertakes data modelling as part of the development of options for the client.

Network Analyst

  • is involved in the analysis of data flow and technical requirements to define a network strategy, and the equipment required to meet projected data traffic
  • investigates the physical space requirements for network equipment
  • plans the network size, capacity and configuration
  • talks with network system management to ensure client needs are met
  • works with network designers and programmers to build and implement network solutions.

Operations Systems Analyst

  • analyses the components of operational systems to optimise performance in things such as response time and down time.

An Information Analyst shows basic similarities to other job titles such as a Business Analyst. Some of these similarities are:
1.     Analytical and organisational skills
2.     Strong leadership and communication skills,
3.     Ability to work as part of a team,
4.     Ability to work under challenging deadlines,
5.     Flexible approach to managing changing priorities.

Daniel Dojcinovski says:

An excellent start, I edited a few spelling mistakes, added my parts and felt that spaces were needed between sentences and in-text references.
Look forward to seeing more changes.
Daniel.D

Aditya Chintamani says:

LOL!  it wasnt that good of a start..i just did this one becuase everyone else in the tute was playing around with business analyst and it was ful..but yeahi guess i was lucky!  i'm the first for this role!

i'll see if i can get some info for differences or the other stuff  when i'm on campus next time..

^_^

Daniel Dojcinovski says:

Dear Nidhi Dinesh Joshi,
it appears that you have edited the page, and with so you have placed a website that is referencing your work.
I had a look at the website and in the title and requirements it is for a Business Analyst and not for an Information Analyst. Therefore this is a cause for concern, how relevant is you information seeing it is for the wrong job title?

Daniel.D

Nidhi Dinesh Joshi says:

Oops, sorry about that! I guess I mixed up references.. I'll fix that up...n make sure I dont do it agn..lol. Thanks for letting me know

Nidhi

Nidhi Dinesh Joshi says:

Hi

I hv a question, r we supposed to look only at Australian job-sites, or can we take information, such as job description, etc from other sites as well?

Nidhi

Christopher Andrew Pellow says:

The job requirements for this were for a SENIOR Information Analyst, I saw the same advertisement on Seek. This should be pointed out, because an entry-level Information Analyst wouldn't necessarily need these requirements.

Aditya Chintamani says:

the job title said "information analyst" nothing about whether we were meant to do entry lvl positions or not

i put all my stuff up in the tute..and lubna saw it..didnt say anything so i guess it's okay??

well can we list the entry lvl requirement and senior lvl requirements in the differences section??

that should clear things up right?

Christopher Andrew Pellow says:

Yeah you're right I suppose, same job etc.

Daniel Dojcinovski says:

Hey I quickly moved up one of the references in the Job listing; remember that references need to be in alphabetical order. So when adding one make sure you keep this in mind!.
Daniel.D

Aditya Chintamani says:

Hey guys! check this listing of jobs i found on Information analysts..it brought up something about Cognos..WTF?? anyone else heard about this thing? anyway..some of these jobs have diff salary rates so i thought it might be good to fill up the salary section and some others..

take a look and let me know what you think..if ok. i'll pull some info out of them and place it up here.

http://www.jobserve.com.au/JobListing.aspx?shid=EC16CE1097942D

Christopher Andrew Pellow says:

Should we remove the thing about Information Analysts needing programming skills in the duties/responsibilities section? I doubt this would be a requirement for an analyst, maybe say that programming skills is an advantage? I haven't seen that on any of the ads for an Information Analyst that I've looked at.

Aditya Chintamani says:

it's a possible skill??  i dunno..maybe move it to differences section then??

Christopher Andrew Pellow says:

Well yeah like its an advantage but I doubt it would be a specific requirement for the position. Maybe for some companies.

Aditya Chintamani says:

i found some info to describe what or who an information analyst is..

i'll text dump it here..read and see if it's worth anything!

Aditya Chintamani says:

Can someone get some different Salary info??  i've got to go do some chores and whatnot so i'm out of this for the moment..and this is due tommorrow right??

so if at all possible  please..assist!

thanks for all your edits and such Dan,Chris and Nidhi..ohh and maybe anonymous..if you did anything  LOL!

sorry to leave the final bit in such a mess though..i'll try and clean if i can get my chores done before i have to bed..

Cheers!

Christopher Andrew Pellow says:

Since when is it due tomorrow :s

I heard the assignment is due week 6.

Christopher Andrew Pellow says:

Ok guys I added some to the definition of information management, and added the definition for knowledge management. Knowledge management often goes hand-in-hand with information management, I was doing Information and Knowledge Management at RMIT before I transferred to UC. Many information analysts would be expected to know about the use of knowledge management.

Daniel Dojcinovski says:

Maybe the section that is in caps lock isnt a very good idea?? let me no what everyone thinks?

Nidhi Dinesh Joshi says:

Hi

Whoever has put up info on Duties and Responsibilities has to edit it since we're supposed to put up the dates on which the sites were accessed as well. Plus, the links need to go in either job requirements or other references.

Aditya Chintamani says:

 @ Nidhi and Dan   ...SORRY!!

the whole caps mess was my doing..

i havent touched this since last week..but most of the stuff came from those two sites i placed in "other References"

i'll fix the dates and references ASAP  ^_^'
