Agenda:

  1. Report on progress on educational module (Judy) and Web design (matt)
  2. Decision on module structure - learning tool implementation through webCT template and separate system for suspected cases through quiz to be done by Jagdish. Please see the ucspace for more details -
  3. New timelines for completionDecisions:
    Educational Module:
  • Educational module almost finalised. Needs proof-reading > Yoni? Peter?
  • Different quiz for different discipline > quiz questions for APA & foot-noting to be added by Judy

Website design:

  • Matt to further develop initial ideas and co-ordinate with Jagdish. Matt & Jagdish to built the website.
  • Peter to do the quiz in respondus. Three separate quiz. (Peter - what do you think?)
  • New timeline for completion by January 2008. Report progress once more before Christmas!
  • Implementation decision:
    1. Learning resource & assessment purposes - embed a link in the WebCT (or LMS) template. Two links - a link to educational module (stand alone html system running in ISE server) & link to quiz tools (3 separate quizzes). These links are hidden to start with. For trial, this will be implemented for the participating units.
    2. Dealing with plagiarism (intervention stage) - for this purpose there will be a WebCT unit called "Understanding Academic Integrity". This will work as the trial. there will be a designer/owner of the site and students will be added as they are referred by lecturers. A notification will be sent to the referring lecturer by the designer of the site once the students have scored 12/12. For the trial this will be done by ASP. ASP will maintain a timesheet to get data for time and workload.
      • Recommendation will be made that this designer role/ administration role is taken by PVC education portfolio. Second option is ASP.
      • this is a less demanding admin role. The admin will also keep a spreadsheet containing details of each referral: student name, student ID, unit referred for, Referring Lecturer, Semester/year, completed Y/N

Consultation with PVC Education & TEDS:

  • Kate to discuss 1st & 2nd option - whose responsibility, commitments, admin role creation, workload, plagiairsm register (if it exists). Lubna to provide background rationale.
